Reader mail: question about the banner photograph

Anonymous asks:

Question:   Guy, if you  really are in Texas, why does the “Notes and Rests” banner show a snowy forest?

Answer:    Because, Anonymous, in the real world where my office is located, it was 110 degrees in the shade earlier today. As I write this at 8:30 in the evening, it’s a more moderate 108. So I have created a virtual world that is cold and wintry. No subterfuge. Just wishful thinking. “It’s good to be the king.” (Mel Brooks, “History of the World Part One”).

About Guy N. Texas

Guy N. Texas is the pen name of a lawyer living in Dallas, who is now a liberal. He was once conservative, but this word has so morphed in meaning that he can no longer call himself that in good conscience. Guy has no political aspirations. He speaks only for himself.

Classical music is best written in cold places.

I dunno. The Russians have a great tradition, true, but so do the Italians. And where are the great Canadian symphonies?
